Screening is your best protection
Aside from some skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women. As a woman, there's a 1 in 8 chance you'll develop breast cancer at some point in your life. So what can you do? Be breast aware. Know what is normal for your breasts and if there are any changes, call your doctor.

- Make sure you have your annual physical exam every year, which includes a clinical breast exam.
- If you're considered to be of average risk for developing breast cancer, start talking with your doctor at age 40 about annual screening mammograms.
- Schedule and keep your annual mammogram appointments.
If you are considered to be at higher risk of developing breast cancer, your screening may start earlier.
