Gastroenterological procedures and tests


  • Abdominal Paracentesis – removal of excess fluid from the abdominal cavity
  • Colonoscopy - procedure that uses a colonoscope, a flexible scope with a video camera attached, to detect problems or diseases of the anus, rectum, or large intestine (colon)
  • Endorectal ultrasound - used to see how far rectal cancer has penetrated through the tissues and whether it has spread to nearby organs or tissues
  • ERCP (Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) including removal of common bile duct stones and biliary stenting
  • Esophageal manometry - measures muscle contractions in the esophagus and can detect weaknesses that allows acid reflux into the esophagus
  • Esophageal pH testing - monitors the pH (acidic level) of stomach acid

  • Flexible sigmoidoscopy – procedure used to see inside the sigmoid colon and rectum
