Diagnostic Modalities

The following technologies are available at Sturdy Memorial Hospital to offer the most advanced means of diagnosing prostate cancer for better accuracy in treatment planning and implementation.

Prostate Ultrasound

Prostate ultrasound, also called transrectal ultrasound, is the main diagnostic modality for prostate cancer and provides images of the prostate gland and surrounding tissue while allowing the physician to biopsy the prostate.

Bone Scan/X-Ray

When prostate cancer spreads to distant sites, it often goes to the bones first. A bone scan used with other imaging tests such as x-rays can help show whether the cancer has reached the bones.

CT/MRI/PET-CT

CT Scans, (Computed Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), and PET-CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography), are medical imaging techniques that enable physicians to diagnose diseases like prostate cancer more quickly and to determine more precisely which stage the cancer is in - information that is invaluable in developing an effective treatment plan.

Pathology Services

Experienced, board certified pathologists are available 24 hours a day for consultative and clinical pathology services related to prostate cancer.
