  • “I had the absolute BEST maternity experience when I delivered my first son in 2007. Jami was the nurse who got me through my labor and delivery; she took exceptional care of me when I was at my worst. The care afterwards was way above par—I never had to ask for anything; ice water, meds, etc.—it was always there for me before I even knew I needed it! The nurses and doctors are just the best. Due with my second son, I have no worries at all that my experience will be the same if not better this time around!”

  • “My one and only child was born at Sturdy Memorial on 2/23/00, the happiest day of my life. Took five long years for me to become pregnant and I had a high-risk pregnancy, but had a beautiful healthy baby boy. We are blessed! Thank you to all the wonderful staff that made our dream turn into a family.”

  • “I delivered all three of my children at Sturdy. To say that the care I received in the Maternity Unit had a profound effect on me, is an understatement. The nursing staff is superior; they really advocated for me and fostered personal relationships with me and my family. My second delivery became an emergency situation—everyone sprang into action immediately, the result being a healthy baby and a mother no worse for wear. The compassion extended to me by the staff was second to none. I cannot say enough about this exceptional unit of the hospital. I would, without a shadow of a doubt, recommend Sturdy to anyone!”

  • “I had both my children at Sturdy and I am very grateful that I did. When I had my first child, I did not even have a pediatrician yet and wasn't sure what I was going to do. Luckily the pediatrician who was on duty that day turned out to be a wonderful doctor, who was able to become our regular pediatrician as well. Without the experience at Sturdy as a new mother, I would have been lost in trying to find the right pediatrician for my family.”

  • “My last two children (now two and four years old) were born at Sturdy. I absolutely loved it there! All of the nurses were great to me and my family. They made it a very happy, memorable experience. I would recommend Sturdy to anyone local who is having a baby.”

  • “I just recently gave birth to my second child at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. The doctors and nursing staff were hands-on, and there to answer any questions that I had. The staff who worked in the nursery, who took care of my newborn while I rested, were great and also answered any questions that I had.”

  • “It all started when Dr. Llewellyn said my first daughter would be 10 lbs. and I needed a C-section. All along I was terrified of C-sections. At 39+ weeks I barely slept a wink the night before the big surgery to finally meet my daughter. We went in around 6 a.m. and from the moment we arrived it felt like a big warm hug; everyone was there to comfort, guide, and protect me and my new baby. Every nurse, lactation consultant, food worker, and doctor took the most compassionate care of us and I had a hard time due to blood loss but no one ever left me feeling alone and afraid. I cried leaving after five days there, because I felt so bonded to nurses like Cecile, Jamie, Barbara and Deb and I still know their names from 2011. Then in 2013 we welcomed our second daughter via C-section again, and it was wonderful to have the same (almost better if that's possible) quality of care. With both deliveries I truly wouldn't have imagined a better experience and I recommend delivery at Sturdy to all of my friends who have relatively easy pregnancies. Thank you and though I won't be having any more babies; if I did I would absolutely return to Sturdy!”

  • “I had all three of my sons at Sturdy Memorial, one whom ended up working at your hospital. With my second son, I’ll never forget, I was in so much pain that a nurse stayed with me through most of the night rubbing my back and helping me through a rough labor, because my husband had worked all day and had fallen asleep. I could not thank her enough for the kindness and support she showed me.”

  • “I had my third daughter at Sturdy. It was the best experience I have ever had! The doctors and nurses were wonderful and took great care of me and my newest little girl. Everyone was very attentive and made me feel very comfortable during my stay. I loved how I didn't have to move rooms, and had a large room to myself. Everything about my stay was great. It was like a mini vacation. If I one day do have another baby, it will be at Sturdy!”

  • “I had my son at Sturdy in 2012 after having my first son at a Providence hospital in 2009. Sturdy was so much more attentive to my needs and didn't make me feel like a number. Sturdy was filled with people who took the time to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. I’m currently pregnant with my third child and plan to deliver at Sturdy again because of the amazing care I had my previous time at Sturdy!”

  • “I had my beautiful daughter Aubrey on 6/25/13 at Sturdy. My hospital experience was beyond words. I had some serious issues with my blood pressure as it was my first baby (I was SUPER nervous)! But the staff was amazing. They were so friendly and comforting and always respectful about what I wanted. I never had to worry or stress because nurses stayed with me 24/7 until I delivered. The next morning the staff even called me to make sure I didn't miss the yummy breakfast buffet! The staff was very knowledgeable about breastfeeding and answered every question I had. They even contacted my insurance and had my breast pump delivered to my bedside. My experience was amazing! Thank you Maternity staff.”

  • “I had three children all delivered at Sturdy Memorial. It is the best place to deliver, great doctors, wonderful nurses, private rooms, all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast, clean, always puts the patient’s/baby’s needs first, and I am looking forward to delivering my fourth child there in a few short weeks. Keep up the good work!”

  • “I went in at 6:30 a.m. to be induced. I was in labor for four shifts of nurses, all wanting to meet my baby. The longest 24 hours and 11 minutes of my life. I got rushed in for an emergency C-section after that time, and my stay at Sturdy was six days total. The nurses made my stay, though it was long and painful, a positive experience. I can’t thank them enough!”

  • “I gave birth to both of my children at Sturdy and met the most caring and wonderful nurses each time. They are beyond amazing women, some who have stayed in contact with me and my family. Also the chance to do skin-to-skin immediately after my C-section was fantastic. Truly the only place I would have a child!”

  • “I had my daughter, Hannah, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in April of 2013 and can't say enough good things about the Maternity floor! Every single one of the nurses was amazing to my whole family. They made us feel safe and at home for the almost full week that we were there. Sarah was especially amazing and helpful during the tough and stressful firsts of being a new mom! I wouldn't go anywhere else.”

  • “I would just like to say that after having two children at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, I don’t think there is a better place to have a baby. The staff in the Maternity Unit is unbelievable. They make you feel completely comfortable from the second you get there till the time you’re walking out the door with your new baby. Both my kids were C-sections too, so I spent plenty of time there. I can’t say enough good things about Sturdy's Maternity staff.”

  • “On April 24, 2009, which was five days past my due date, I was induced. My ob/gyn was Dr. Philosophe and my labor nurse was Celeste; I am thankful I had my baby during her shift. Celeste helped me so much during my awful back labor and almost drug-free delivery. Thankfully the anesthesiologist, whom I still brag about to this day, came to our rescue and gave me a pain-free epidural! We had a beautiful little girl, Adrianna. Volunteers made her a beautiful baby blanket and knit cap. We had an amazing couple’s breakfast our last day. I love Sturdy Memorial Hospital and the Maternity floor!”

  • “I have had the honor of delivering my son (2011) and daughter (2014) at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. From the moment I was admitted to the moment I was discharged, I, along with my husband and both my children, were given the best care possible. All the doctors, nurses, and staff gave my family and me all the attention we needed to feel informed and welcome. If we had a question it was always answered, if we needed a nurse/doctor they were there in a heartbeat, but most of all, if we had a concern the staff at Sturdy always put our minds at ease. Being a first-time mom back when my son was born, the staff guided and encouraged me as I began my journey as a mother. As overwhelming, yet enjoyable, being a first-time mom is, I always felt confident the staff at Sturdy would support me even after being discharged. When my daughter was born, I still received the same support I did with my son even though it was my second child. My husband and I cannot say enough great things about Sturdy, nor can we ever thank the staff enough for always making us feel welcome.”

  • “Delivering both of my sons at Sturdy Memorial Hospital were two of the best experiences of my life! I feel at home at Sturdy and put full trust in the nurses and doctors who work there. I’m also grateful to have delivered at a hospital that promotes the practice of skin-to-skin contact.”

  • “Where do I start? Our experience with Sturdy was nothing but exceptional! We have 12 children and eight were born at Sturdy. When you have nurses who know you by name and nurses that show up to a birth when they weren't even scheduled that day, there are just no words that can describe the love felt with each and every one of my children's births. When they say, ‘we should have a wing named after you,’ that's just awesome! Writing this about Sturdy Memorial right now makes me smile because I know that if God should bless us with another child, we will be welcomed with smiles and hearts of gold.”

  • “Becoming a new mother, I had to make lots of important decisions on where I would receive the best care for both me and my child. When it came to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, I knew I made the best choice! The hospital was so accommodating to my needs and the staff and affiliated doctors are all top notch. I attended Childbirth Education Classes and also met with lactation specialists after my child was born. During my delivery the doctors and nurses were considerate, professional, and made me both calm and comfortable during what can be an overwhelming experience. My baby was brought into the world with the most excellent care of the very best staff I could imagine. I strongly recommend Sturdy to every expecting mother I know!”

  • "The team at Sturdy goes above and beyond to help enrich new families. The classes offered by the Hospital not only assist in developing a bond with newborns but allow for life-saving information. The Preparing for Childbirth, CPR, and Infant Massage classes have all been wonderful and the team could not have been more helpful. I am so grateful for the experience we shared."

  • “I had no idea 11/17/10 would be my daughter’s birthdate. I was scared as she was early. While waiting for my husband to arrive, the amazing nursing staff kept me calm and reassured me through the entire process. I made many lifelong friends from my nurses.”

  • "After delivering both my children at Sturdy, I can say that the Maternity Department is full of wonderful, capable, caring, professional people who made each stay there both comfortable and memorable. My first delivery—my son—was an unplanned C-section, and going into Maternity for my second child with hopes of a girl and vaginal birth, all the Maternity staff knew this and literally erupted in celebration when she arrived. Looking back on this, their excitement for me still gives me chills. Also, having the food restrictions I do (vegan), I was nervous about what I would eat while there but the Nutrition & Food Services staff visited me daily to plan out my menu, offering substitutions and making an exemplary effort to keep me nourished. Even the after-care is so extensive. Resources including the New Mom’s Group, where I ‘graduated’ with four friends whom I still meet weekly after more than three years, have been invaluable to me. I would and have recommended Maternity at Sturdy Memorial Hospital to other moms."

  • “Sturdy Memorial made having my first child a completely comfortable and truly memorable experience. My baby girl, husband, myself, and our families were treated as family members, with respect and care. The Maternity Unit offers state-of-the-art technology and, most importantly, friendly and knowledgeable staff whose main goal is to help parents and babies start their lives together. I especially love that the staff educates and encourages the practice of skin-to-skin for both mother and father as an integral part of this great new journey. With the guidance of the nurses and their knowledge of this invaluable practice, my husband and I created an unbreakable bond with our child that only experience could testify to.”

  • “My husband and I decided to have our first child at Sturdy somewhat by chance. It was nearby, and we'd heard good things about the Maternity ward from friends. After the exceptional care we received there, when I became pregnant with our second child there was no question we'd go anywhere else to have her. Both times we went to Sturdy to have our babies, our nurses and doctors were caring, comforting, and highly skilled. They always treated us with so much kindness and warmth; they felt like an integral part of our newly formed family. We especially appreciated their approach to skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding, both of which were extremely important to us. I wouldn't change either of my birthing experiences, and I'd never hesitate to recommend Sturdy Memorial's Maternity services to everyone I know!”

  • “I have been attending both the New Moms Group that meets weekly and the Breastfeeding Support Group that meets monthly, since my son was born in October 2013. Both groups offer a supportive and judgment-free atmosphere for mom and baby. I especially love the enthusiasm that the New Moms leader brings as a parent educator, always noticing the new things that my son Henry is doing week to week, which makes me feel good as a parent. And the Breastfeeding leader’s style of running the group is great; she gives input wearing both her ‘nurse’ and her ‘mommy’ hat, which is so helpful. Everyone gets the chance to talk about how their experience is going and ask for advice from the other moms if interested. I highly recommend these groups to other moms around the area!”

  • “I cannot speak highly enough of the Maternity department at Sturdy. I would recommend it to anyone having a baby. Everyone in Maternity, from the doctors and nurses to the housekeepers and food service staff, was so courteous, friendly, and good to me and my family. I had C-sections for both of my sons at Sturdy, so I had to stay in the hospital for several days, but it was like being on vacation! I didn’t want to leave. I received exceptional care, which I greatly appreciate.”

  • I had a great experience in Maternity. The room was homey. All the nurses were so nice and everyone really knew what they were doing; I knew I was in good hands. I really enjoyed my experience there. And I went to the Infant Massage class, which was great too. The instructor was very knowledgeable and it felt good getting out with my baby and learning something that’s good for her health.”
